Procurement ~ What makes us invest in an Art Piece, what makes up an Art Collection? What makes a good one, a great one?
I LOVE ART!
I LOVE FINDING ART FOR MY CLIENTS!
A recent post on my instagram speaks about a beautiful detail in a painting and the artists’ reference to,
Ariadne’s thread.
According to Greek Mythology…
named for the legend of Ariadne,
is solving a problem by multiple means, such as a physical maze, a logic puzzle or an ethical dilemma.
Ariadne’s thread, a path through the Labyrinth…
This Greek myth of the labyrinth and the Minotaur has many interpretations, at its centre, ancient insights for us on how to find a way through the maze…
(reference wikipedia).
It sparked more of my interest in the painting itself.
It also got me thinking again about the mystery of Art and it’s procurement
for
If there was a common thread in the Labyrinth of
THE ART WORLD
would it not be that there will always be mystery in what connects,
attracts us to a piece of art?
That mystery that makes us want to invest in it.
Add it to an existing collection or start one.
That thin mysterious thread perhaps from
a detail,
an emotion,
a curiosity,
a myth,
puzzle,
a feeling,
a ghost of a memory…
Did it capture our imagination?
Is it a connection, perception to the artist’s way of seeing that is different or similar to ours?
Has it had an effect on our senses?
Did it touch our soul?
“Art evokes the mystery without which the world would not exist.”
Rene Magritte
In art procurement, painting, sculpture, photography…
I often advise make sure you “LOVE it” !
for F…SAKE, it’s NOT about matching your sofa colour !
What I mean by this is, you should not be investing
in art just to look good over your sofa!
It's a process that needs to be about the art first and formost.
Concentrate on the art!
Remember I am also an interior designer and decorator and this
IS my advice!
The art first then the decor!
It IS personal, ask, do YOU want to spend more time with it,
is it interesting, intriguing... it’s going to hang on YOUR wall.
You want to be able to appreciate it on a regular basis!
So be really honest with yourself.
Technical artistic mastery, talent, skill, imagination…yes, sure, of course, but…
ask yourself what made you stop and stare.
Did you stop and stare,
or was it because everyone else did?
Did you "fall in love" with the it,
art is so subjective, everyone will take away something different.
Was it a gut reaction?
No two pieces will every have the same effect,
was it perhaps... a reflection of something you still seek…
This is the mystery
that is what can compel us, attracts us.
“Art attracts us only by what it reveals of our most secret self.”
Jean Luc Godard
